SmartSolids

Last updated: October 30, 2023

SmartSolids (also called 3D primitives) are based on true solid geometry and enable the creation of 3D solid primitive objects. These include slab, sphere, cylinder, cone, torus, and wedge shaped objects. They can be cut through, modified and manipulated as solid objects. SmartSolids can be placed with active family and part definitions.

While surface creation tools are available, the tools used to create 3D primitive solids can also be used to create 3D objects made of surfaces. Surface objects have capped ends giving them an appearance of a solid form. But they are different in that they are hollow inside much like a box.
